Did my technique fail?
When people make blanket statements such as these it really does paint a broad picture of what they define as heavy.
I agree that some people train too heavy to Maintain technique.
I agree Training below 5 reps to failure regularly is potentially too heavy to be efficient to gain muscle. But training at 6 reps and beyond still requires heavy weights and does stimulate muscle growth.
Training to failure can be counterproductive if done too often but that doesn’t mean too heavy if reps are still 6 and beyond. It just means that intensity needs to be lowered if volume is higher.
Reps, sets, technique, volume, and proximity to failure are important. However blanket statements suggesting we don’t need to lift heavy weights to gain muscle. Is counter intuitive to the idea of progressive resistance.
Using examples of great bodybuilding legends who didn’t lift heavy really doesn’t prove a point. There are many examples of large body builders who lifted heavy all the time.
Many bodybuilders sustained injuries from training ‘heavy’ and many did not.
The focus really needs to be on maximum efficiency in training to gain muscle. Not arbitrary arguments.
