McDonalds can help you lose or gain weight.

2 popular McDonalds Experiments have been performed that have shown vastly different results.

Which suggests that experiment design is a very important factor. But in addition an experiment can be designed in ways to change how we look at products.

There was 2 experiments using the same food that were designed to give opposite outcomes.

The first was ‘Supersize Me’ a documentary series that showed how bad McDonalds can be for weight loss and poor health markers.

The other was, ‘How to lose weight eating only McDonald’s’. Which showed that McDonalds can be eaten and you can still lose weight.

I have put links in comments.

Both ate only McDonalds for a specified period of time and both had different outcomes although both had different rules.

In ‘supersize me’ the documentary maker went on a month long quest of eating McDonalds at every meal.

He had to order a meal not just a burger and he also had to supersize the meal if asked. He also reduced his exercise in order to be equal with what the average American was exercising.

After a month the net result was that the star of the documentary gained substantial weight and his health markers dramatically declined.

How many calories did he eat per day? That would depend on the meal size which varied in each state. One would suggest a lot of calories.

The fact that he gained weight is no surprise considering the huge amount of calories in a supersized value meal with coke and fries.

The other experiment was run a little different. The star of this documentary had made different rules.

He limited his daily intake to 2000 calories and exercises 45minutes per day for 5 days a week.

But he ate McDonalds every day at every meal.

The net result is that he lost substantial amounts of weight over 6months and improved his health markers.

How can that be that 2 experiments with the same food ended in completely different outcomes.

Simple answer ‘CALORIES’.

Any food that you eat has calories, apparent good foods and apparent bad foods. The end result is that when you eat more calories than you need you put on weight. When you eat less calories than you need you lose weight.

Forget good fats and bad fats, natural sugars and sugars, complex carbohydrates and simple carbohydrates, healthy food and unhealthy foods.

Forget, Ketogenic, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, So Cal Diet, Low Fat, intermittent fasting, Cave Man diet and anything else you like. They all work and only because of calorie deficit.

Food has calories and if you overeat. You will gain weight no matter if it’s McDonalds or the specially prepared organic nuts and ocean caught Salmon.

Now, I am not suggesting that eating McDonald’s all the time is a great idea. But eating McDonalds sometimes and eating maybe just a burger and water will keep your calories low.

The Health industry is as much smoke and mirrors as the Take away food industry and they thrive on your ignorance.

Any diet you eat should always start with a calorie deficit for weight loss and a calorie surplus for weight gain.

Once you have that in mind, then you can include high quality protein, complex carbohydrates, good fats, fibre and vitamins and minerals.

Until then, remember calories are the most important measurement and remember that a healthy BMI is also important (for the majority of the population).
