I felt exposed

The other day I went to ‘Aqualandia’ which is a water park in Benidorm, Spain.

It was a beautiful summers day in Spain and we were definitely looking forward to having a swim and going on some of water rides.

I’m not a singlet person neither at the beach or at the gym. I am a baggy T shirt kind of guy in the gym.

I just don’t like singlets.

Under my shirt I am pasty white and I could probably be seen as a bright reflective object from space.

I have always looked after myself in terms of regular exercise and I always eat a good diet.

Once we walked around the park and found a place to put our towels and clothes I took my shirt off and put on some sunscreen.

I don’t want to go from white to red.

Then we proceeded to find the wave pool. As I walked around the park with my wife I was getting a lot of stares. These were not subtle stares. They were the type to make you ask ‘What the F... are you looking at?

I said to my wife, Why are people staring at us? She said they were staring at me because I had a lot more muscle and I was leaner than most guys there.

I felt exposed.

As weird as it sounds. I have never done weight training for anyone but me and whilst I have competed many times. The gym for me is for enjoyment, stress relief and mental health.

Competition is just a goal that I use to give me something to train for so that I have a focus.

Never have I done weight training to get looks at a water park or at the beach. It’s for my own personal enjoyment.

The reason I say this is that people have many reasons to lose weight. But many of those reasons are not for themselves.

Exercise and feeling good are about yourself and are personal commitments. If you start to get looks because you are looking great. Take it as a compliment but continue doing it for you. If it’s for you then you will do for as long as you are able.

Pasty white skin.
