Focus on Intensity

Intensity not calories burnt

I have been working in the fitness industry for 15 years and I have been competing in bodybuilding on and off for 27 years.

In that time I have watched many a treadmill walkers who walk on the treadmill with little intensity and rare few have lost weight walking on a treadmill. Unless they had reduced their calories.

If these same people had have worked on increasing speed, slope, performing intervals, or maybe look for other forms of cardiovascular exercise then their results may have been better.

The more intense the exercise, the more stress it puts on muscles which can promote muscle growth, the more calories you will burn post exercise. It also puts an emphasis on improving fitness, not just burning calories.

There is nothing more beneficial with exercise than the mental aspects of setting personal bests. It puts an emphasis on the process and not just burning calories. Improving fitness is a great feeling.

Putting the diet aspect aside for a moment, exercise should be focused on self improvement and not calorie burning. Self improvement will give positive feedback and make exercise less of a chore.

Get into the gym and enjoy the process of improving.
